Community Opticians Week

Community Opticians Week

27th July - 1st August 2015

Come and join us in celebrating independent opticians during this special week.

Community Opticians Week

All eyes on the high street in July

All eyes will be on our local high streets up and down the country this July. Efforts are being made from national to local level to give the commercial hearts of our towns and cities a real boost and encourage people to support their local shops and businesses.

Molsom and Associates Optometrists will be preparing for Sight Care’s Community Opticians’ Week, which launches on Monday (27th July) and will be running until Saturday 1st August.

Sight Care, a support network for independent opticians, is aiming to encourage people to visit their local optician during that week. While they are in town – for their eye test or consultation - it’s hoped they can be persuaded to spend their money in the local shops and businesses on their local high street.

Andy Molsom, owner of Molsom and Associates Optometrists said:

There is a real drive at the moment to continue to turn around the fortunes of our precious high streets. The Government’s new Minister for High Streets, Marcus Jones, is encouraging groups of local businesses to apply for the Great British High Street Awards – to raise their local profile and put them firmly back on the retail map.

Molsom and Associates Optometrists is part of Sight Care’s network of local opticians who work in the heart of many towns and villages in Britain. Like other community opticians, we are in a position to help draw more shoppers and money spenders back to the high street and into those shops and businesses. Independent opticians are an ideal resource to go to for advice and they are there to better understand individual lifestyles and make recommendations for family eye health. That is what Community Opticians’ Week is all about.”

Local MP, John Hayes says the initiative is very welcome in Spalding:

Local, independent shops are the lifeblood of Spalding and our market towns, and I will always support our high streets in South Holland.

Sight Care’s ‘Community Opticians’ Week’ exemplifies the kind of welcome initiative that needs to become far more commonplace amongst small businesses to ensure that people are reminded of the quality of products, along with the personal service only an independent firm can offer.”

As part of the celebrations, Sight Care is giving customers who book an eye test appointment a Molsom and Associates Optometrists or another participating independent optician during the month of July or August the chance to win a National Trust Family Membership for a year*.

*Closing date for entries 31st August.
